UCLA Frontera Website

A joint project of the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center, the Arhoolie Foundation, and the UCLA Digital Library showcasing labels, album graphics, keywords, and audio excerpts of over 170,000 recordings. The digital archive enables wide-ranging research in Mexican and Mexican American culture and ensures that the lyrics, music, and tales in the Frontera Collection will be available to scholars and the public for generations to come.

Rooted in the life’s work of founder Chris Strachwitz and his acclaimed independent label Arhoolie Records, the Arhoolie Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to to the preservation and celebration of regional roots music and its makers. The website features rare archival photos, interviews, and video documenting the blues, Cajun, Zydeco, Sacred Steel gospel, and many more vernacular music traditions.

Smithsonian Folkways

Nonprofit record label of the Smithsonian Institution and part of the Smithsonian’s Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. Smithsonian Folkways has been the home of Arhoolie Records since 2016.
