Lalo Guerrero
Called the “Father of Chicano Music,” Lalo Guerrero wrote and performed many songs about biculturalism and the pachuco lifestyle. He was a torchbearer of a new musical genre which mixed social commentary with humor. Guerrero’s music reflected a deep awareness of the social injustices suffered by his community, and he became a leading advocate for Mexican and Chicano culture. After achieving success as a recording artist, Guerrero founded the East LA nightclub Lalo’s in 1960, which became an important venue for Mexican artists and a social hotspot in the city.
